From this beginning, the Milwaukee Art Center started to grow. A building addition in 1975 by David Kahler provided more gallery space for the expanding Collection, and in 2001, architect Santiago Calatrava designed the Quadracci Pavilion, which not only provided what was now the Milwaukee Art Museum with greater public gathering space, but also gave the city of Milwaukee a new, international icon.

Welcome the day with the Rise and Walk/Run 5k. Runners and walkers may start any time between 5:45am, and 7:00am. There will be a mass start at 5:45am for those who wish to compete with others. For the rest of us, this is a noncompetitive, self-guided event along East Wisconsin Avenue towards the beautiful Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum, through Lakeshore State Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. Volunteers will be on hand to record your finish time, if you like. Participants may start at any time of their choosing, may go as fast or as leisurely as they like, may take the marked route, or stop to greet the morning or sightsee along the way. The 5k route will be marked periodically with chalk for your convenience. High-tech users can also download *.gpx files for their fitness and navigation devices. Use caution as the route includes roads open to traffic.
Participants will receive a commemorative MAASTO Milwaukee 2023 event water bottle.
Additional routes for walkers and runners looking for challenges on another day include a 4-mile route, and a hilly 10k route that includes the beautiful Milwaukee beaches on Lake Michigan. Both alternate routes also go to and from the Milwaukee Art Museum and the beautiful parks along Lake Michigan.
